Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been involved in working border collies?

I got my first border collie in 2009 and trained him from Novice to Open in USBCHA with the help of several experienced handlers and bred my first litter of border collies in 2019. You can read more about me and my dogs by clicking here.

Do you have a contract?

No, contracts are not typical in working border collies. However, I am here to support my buyers as much as possible and any dog I produce is welcome back at my farm any time if for whatever reason it doesn’t work out with their original owners.

How do you raise your puppies?

My puppies are raised in the house and are exposed to a variety of surfaces and sounds. They receive plenty of socialization during their time here. While I don’t utilize a formal puppy rearing program like Puppy Culture, I do my best to give my puppies the absolute best start possible.

Do you sell to first time border collie owners?

I have in the past and will handle each individual on a case-by-case basis. If you are interested in getting your first border collie from me, please complete the application on this website and we can discuss further if I think my dogs would be a good fit.

Do your border collies have “off-switches”?

I believe that it is a misconception that working border collies are over the top and unable to settle when they aren’t working; all my dogs need to relax when there isn’t any work to do. They are still a working breed that needs adequate mental stimulation, but they certainly don’t need hours of exercise to be happy and in fact that can lead to a dog that requires more and more exercise to relax. It is important to teach your puppy how to settle and not fall into the trap of exercising them to the point of exhaustion every single day.

How do I get a puppy from you?

I make breeding announcements on my Facebook page here, if you have any questions about my dogs that aren’t answered on my web page feel free to reach out via email or my Facebook page. If you are interested in getting on a future wait list for a border collie from my kennel, please complete the puppy application here.

How far in advance do you know your breeding plans?

I typically don’t plan more than 1 to 2 litters in advance. So much can change in the time between planning and actually breeding the dog. I am always watching for new stud options while I am at trials and typically wait until I am ready to make the cross to formalize plans. If you are looking for a dog several years out, I suggest following my social media and reaching out when you are closer to being ready.

Do you take deposits?

I only take deposits when I have puppies on the ground and am finalizing my wait list. Deposits are nonrefundable if you choose to pass on the puppy at a later date, however if for whatever reason I am unable to provide the puppy due to a temperament issue or a health concern I will refund the deposit.
